Resolving TTL Inconsistencies with RedisTemplate

Tech Oct 31 1

RedisTemplate provides methods to set expiration times for keys using TTL (Time To Live). However, operations like expire may not immediately reflect the expected TTL due to asynchronous execution or timing issues.

To address this, ensure atomicity by wrapping TTL settings within a transaction using SessionCallback. For example:

redisTemplate.execute((RedisOperations ops) -> {
    ops.multi();
    ops.expire("sessionKey", 120, TimeUnit.SECONDS);
    // Additional operations
    ops.exec();
    return null;
});

This approach guarantees that the TTL assignment and related operations are processed as a single atomic unit, preventing inconsistencies.

Alternatively, directly set TTL during key creation with set commands that include expiration parameters:

redisTemplate.opsForValue().set("cacheKey", "data", 300, TimeUnit.SECONDS);

Verify TTL values post-operation using getExpire to confirm correctness:

Long remainingTime = redisTemplate.getExpire("cacheKey", TimeUnit.SECONDS);
